Struggling to build a business while working a 9 to 5 job is no easy task. I mean…there are a million other things you have to get done, right? Cooking, cleaning, gardening, fixing, taxi service, pet duty…and if you have a significant other, they need attention too! It’s no wonder we’re struggling to build a business!
Devoting time to building a meaningful, well-developed business that is profitable can leave you exhausted and unable to get things done. I know…I struggle with all of these things every day.
On top of all that, when you DO find a significant chunk of time to work on your business, its hard to know what to do first…

Is that why it’s taking you so long to get some traction with your business and leave the 9 to 5 world behind?
Because that’s exactly what slowed me down.
-I had no time
-I couldn’t decide what idea to develop or what task to do first
–I didn’t know how to market myself online OR offline
Well…I wasn’t willing to give up. It meant too much to me to ONE, have my own business, TWO, make the amount of money I need and THREE, to do the kind of work that I want to do.
I was tired of my 9 to 5 dictating my lifestyle. I want my work to support my lifestyle and so I made some changes.
First…I wrote down WHY I wanted my own business.
To earn a great income for my family, to help other entrepreneurs like me with the technology and strategies of doing business online and to work for myself instead of for someone else. If I’m going to work hard making someone else wealthy, I can work just as hard for my own wealth!
Second…I decided what I needed to do with each of the 24 hours in a day that God gives me.
I created a schedule for myself…one that carved out blocks of time to do the things I needed to do for my personal and family life and THEN blocks of time to do the 4 most important, core things in building my business:
- Getting my mind right for business
- Getting my plan for the future crystal clear
- Defining who I wanted to help and how to speak to them
- Getting systems in place to manage it all
Lastly, I learned, one by one, the top ten things I needed for an online business and how to implement them in my business.
I am a learner! I love to read, take self-directed classes and doing hands-on projects. Having the knowledge is nothing unless you implement it. So I took one thing at a time and I made it happen…sometimes imperfectly, but I did it. Small victories turn into big overall victories when I kept going instead of getting discouraged because it wasn’t perfect.
Implementing those things was the tough part. At first I got caught up in not wanting to copy what others were doing. But then I learned that I didn’t have to re-invent the wheel…I just needed to model what they were doing and put my own flavor on it.
I want to know. How do YOU deal with the struggles of building your business while working 9 to 5?
